The Source HC 16 TB SSD from Mushkin Enhanced is now available at select stores including Newegg. At $2,599.99, the SSD isn’t exactly cheap, but it seems to be an intriguing possibility for wealthy gamers who have fantasized of keeping their entire Steam library on a single SSD. The drive may also be a tempting alternative for customers who are slowly being driven crazy by the noise of their home media servers’ spinning disks and are willing to pay a high price for quiet.
Although peak performance isn’t Mushkin’s TLC-based Source HC 16 TB SSD’s primary selling point, the SATA drive does provide maximum sequential read and write rates of up to 555 MB/s and 535 MB/s, respectively, which should be plenty for basic media access. It has an MTBF of 1,500,000 hours of work and is rated for 11,375 TBW.
